Knowledge objects (1) Learn some useful words and expressions: the People’s Republic of China, winner, grass, visitor, improve, environment, ourselves (2) Learn “There be” sentence pattern in the Simple Future Tense. (3) Review the Simple Past Tense and the Simple Future Tense. 2. Ability objects (1) Develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing by learning the useful structures.. (2) Train the students’ ability of working in pairs and group. 3. Affections and attitudes (1) Know some information about the Olympics China has taken part in (2) Enable the students to love the country.
II.TEACHING KEY AND DIFFICULT POINTS 1.Key points: (1) Help the students understand the text. (2) Help the students communicate with each other by using the structures. (3) Enable the students to study in groups and co-operate skillfully. 2. Difficult points: (1) How to make dialogues with the new structures and act them out. (2) How to write a better passage.

V. Teaching Procedure: 1. Warming-up Talk about the sports we’ve learnt by showing the pictures of the five mascots, using the simple future tense. For example: A: What will you do this afternoon? B: I will play basketball. Have a discussion on what the mascots stand for. The teacher introduce some information about the mascots. “Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, Nini” stands for “Welcome to Beijing.” 2. leading-in Show the new words and phrases by talking something about the Olympics. T: Beijing will host the 2008 Olympics. This is the very first time for the People’s Republic of China to host it. As we know, China took park in the Olympics long time ago. We took part in the Los Angeles Olympics, we took part in the Sydney Olympics and we took part in the Athens Olympics. We’ve won many gold medals in history. And if you want to get the gold medals you should be the winner. List and read the new words and phrases. 3. Reading and understanding (1) Listen and read the passage in the flash for the first time, trying to answer one question: Which Olympics will Beijing host in 2008 ? (2) Read the passage on the books for the second time. And try to do the true or false questions alone. (3) Read the passage for the third time. Work with the partner, and try to fill the chart.
(4) Help the students retell the passage according to the information in the chart. (5) Read aloud the passage after the teacher. 4. Presentation and practice (1) Start 2a 1 through a conversation between the teacher and students. T: It’s so exciting that 2008 is coming. But what will Beijing be like in 2008? Think about it ! I think there will be great changes in 2008. Show the pictures and help the students use the structure of “There will be…” A: What will Beijing be like in 2008? B: There will be more roads in Beijing. … Teach the new words “grass”. Help the students make a dialogue with the partner about what Beijing will be like in 2008 by using the information given. Have one student act as a reporter or worker from the IOC, the others act as Chinese people. The reporter is asking the Chinese people about what Beijing will be like in 2008. And the Chinese people is talking about the Beijing in their dream. (2) Look at the picture in the screen and start 2a 2. Help the students answer the question : What should we do for the 2008 Beijing Olympics? Review the usage of “should”. A: What should we do for the 2008 Beijing Olympics? B: We should improve our environment. … Teach the new phrases: improve our environment; build ourselves up (3) Work with the partner and have a brainstorm. Try to make as many sentences with “We should… for 2008” as possible. Write the sentences down on the paper. The one who has most sentences will present the sentences to the whole class. 5. Extension:Writing Help the students write a short passage about what Beijing will be like and what we should do for 2008 Beijing Olympics by getting all the information together. Introduce the structure of a passage. An example has been given to so as to make it easier for the students: Beijing will host the Olympics in 2008. At that time, I will be 14/15/… years old in 2008. There will be more roads/visitors/… in Beijing. Now, I’m studying hard/ building myself up/… for 2008. We should plant more trees and grass. We should improve our environment. We should learn English well. We should …. Everyone in China hopes that we will host the best Olympics in history. When the students finish, choose one or two to present their passage and give a brief comment. 6. Summery Have a brief summery about the new words and phrases. 7. Homework Improve the passage.
